As Made in Wroclaw kicks off, the first day – VC Demo Day – saw the premiere of a report celebrating, showcasing, and evaluating Wrocław and Lower Silesia’s rise as a premier European tech hub, revealing a clear, data-driven blueprint for its next stage of global growth.
The inaugural “Wrocław & Lower Silesia Startup Ecosystem Report 2025”, published by the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency (ARAW) and Startup Wrocław in collaboration with CRAFT, provides the first-ever comprehensive analysis of the region’s dynamic innovation landscape. The report was led and authored by Dr. Yash Chawla, Head of CRAFT and Deputy Head of the Department of Computational Social Science at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
The report tells the story of a region that has rightfully earned its title as “Poland’s Startup Capital.” Fueled by a world-class talent pipeline of over 117,000 university students and a uniquely collaborative community, the ecosystem is thriving. Moving beyond anecdotes, the report maps out the region’s progress and presents a strategic vision for the future.
With a strong overall health score of 6.86 out of 10 from stakeholders, the report identifies key opportunities to accelerate growth and cement the region’s status as a top-tier European hub. Strategic focus areas include enhancing commercialization to turn innovative products into global businesses, expanding access to scale-up funding, deepening collaboration between academia and industry, and streamlining corporate-startup partnerships.

The report outlines three strategic imperatives to seize these opportunities: mastering the business of technology, creating a local capital cycle to fund companies through their entire lifecycle, and forging a “triple helix” of deep integration between academia, corporations, and startups.
Magdalena Okulowska, President of the Board at the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency (ARAW), commented on the ecosystem’s journey: “What began with dreams and ideas has grown into a community of over 300 startups. This report is more than just data; it’s a living chronicle of the stories, experiences, and passion of the people who are the true strength of our ecosystem. It is proof that we are ready to write global success stories.”

Placing Wrocław’s journey in a continental context, Dr. Michiel Scheffer, President of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Board, offered a clear recommendation: “To bridge the innovation gap, cities must take action. I advise policymakers to actively create a ‘valorization roundtable’ where all local universities meet regularly to share information, analyze successes, and collaborate on turning research into businesses. This is how emerging hubs cultivate a world-class deep-tech ecosystem.”
